‘Music of Our Lives’ set Thursday

A 30-member community chorus and a number of small groups and individuals will provide entertainment in The Music of Our Lives, a project that coincides with the Smithsonian exhibit currently on display at the Chamber of Commerce, The Way We Worked.

Steve Hubbard, who coordinated the event, said some of the music is clearly related to work.

“It’s all local talent, and we’ll also have a sing-a-long,” he said.

First Baptist Music Minister Dwight Crigger is directing a 30-plus voice community chorus formed for the occasion. Hubbard said the selections include songs about cotton fields and “The Boll Weevil Song.”

Other performers include Monica Barton, Savannah Ricks,

William Barnes, Taylor Weeks, Walter and Judith Moore, Jimmy Wilson, Samuel Moore, the Moores and More, Thomas Hayle and friends, and the Dixie Dandies.

“Commercials” will be performed by Roger Powell, Cathy Powell and Darlene.

For those who would like to sing in the chorus, there will be a rehearsal at 3 p.m. Sun., Jan. 26, in the choir room of First Baptist Church.

The program is set for 7 p.m. at the Dixon Center of LBW Community College.

The program is free.
