Life Center students take field trip to CornDodgers in Headland

On Thurs., Nov. 5, Mrs. Sonia Wallace and her students from the Andalusia High School Life Center took an educational field trip to CornDodgers Farm.

The students walked through a corn maze, visited the “Animal Barn” petting zoo, bounced on the inflatable “Jumping Pillow,” played in four tons of corn in the “Corn Crib,” and rode a wagon hayride.

They also shot corn cobs through the “Corn Cannon,” participated in duck races, and enjoyed other hands-on activities and play time on the farm.

In the learning barn, also known as “Crop College,” there were displays of corn, cotton, pumpkins, sunflowers, satsumas, and farm animals for the students to view.

Not only was this field trip full of fun activities, it allowed Mrs. Wallace to address Alabama Alternate Assessment standards in the areas of science, writing, and transition outside of the classroom environment.

Educational trips such as this provide numerous learning opportunities and fun for all and opportunities for the students to identify resources and skills needed for an integrated postsecondary community life.

Accompanying Mrs. Wallace and the students on the field trip were her paraprofessional, Tyler Wilson, and bus driver Evan Soles. CornDodgers Farm is located eight miles north of Dothan at 1555 Knowles Road in Headland.
