Sending out a cry for our children
Dear Editor:
I'm a small town mother of three (3), that has never done anything like this before, but I'm concerned about the welfare of our children and the future of our city.
I am concerned about the effects of all the cutbacks threatening our city schools, the possibility of larger classes with fewer teachers, the elimination of programs such as band, art and home economics to name just a few.
I am told we have no funds, as I look around at all the improvements being made in our city, it seems foolish to me to build on to your homes if you can't pay the Mortgage.
When we make our children pay for our poor stewardship, it will cost us in the long run.
Teen pregnancies will bombard Southeast Alabama. Vandalism will destroy the very improvements we have strived so hard to make.
Low moral breeds much mischief.
Then what is going to happen? Will the answer to all our problems come rolling in? Will we lower our standards and allow casinos to bail us out?
Is there not a better way? Can't we take a stand and stop this now, or will we sit back as when prayer was taken out of our schools and do nothing?
