Straughn JV Tigers top Red Level 22-14

The Straughn JV Tigers went on top against the Red Level JV Tigers early in football action Monday night, but had to rally to earn a 22-14 win.

Straughn scored first when quarterback Ryne Taylor found Blake Cotter for an 80-yard touchdown play. The score came on the first play of Straughn's second possession.

The two-point attempt came up short with Straughn on top 6-0 with 35 seconds left in the opening period.

Red Level went on top 8-6 just before halftime after recovering a fumbled snap.

Straughn was in the shotgun formation when the ball was hiked and one of the officials blew his whistle. The Straughn players froze at the sound of the whistle, but Red Level's defenders pounced on the ball.

The Red Level JV Tigers scored shortly after the fumble recovery when quarterback Taylor Wright connected with Terrance Marshall for a touchdown on a 32-yard pass play. Shane Turner powered his way into the end zone for a two-point conversion and Red Level was on top 8-6 with 1:22 left in the half.

Red Level added to the lead in the third quarter when Princeton Ryce scored on a one-yard run. The two-point play was no good, but Red Level was on top 14-6 with 2:31 left in the third.

Straughn scored on the first play of the fourth quarter when Josh Pettus added a two-yard touchdown run. Pettus added a two-point conversion on a running play to tie the score at 14-14.

Straughn took a 22-14 lead late in the game when Pettus scored on another two-yard run. Justin Freeney added a two-point conversion for a 22-14 lead with 15 seconds left in regulation.

Red Level returns to action on Monday, Oct. 13 at Georgiana. It is the season final\u00E9 for the Tigers.

Straughn plays again next Tuesday against Pleasant Home.
