Good morning Covington County. It's a great day to be a resident in our area.

Just look at the myriad of activities we each have the opportunity to take part in. Of course, this is rivalry week in Covington County sports. Opp faces Andalusia in the cross-county battle for bragging rights, while Red Level faces off against Straughn in the battle across the Conecuh River.

With each of those games comes a wide number of activities at each school. We applaud each school for partaking in some good, friendly rivalry - but let's keep it that way. Let's not let a sport become so central to our lives that it gets out of hand.

Have fun with the rivalries, but be safe and smart.

Trick or Treat has been set for tonight in Andalusia and Opp because of the big football games on Friday night.

This is a good thing for several reasons, most importantly, because Friday nights are horrible traffic nights, and it's simply not safe to have little ones roaming the streets on those nights.

Several organizations have set special trick or treat festivities to include all ages. This is another safety issue, because it also keeps young ones from roaming the streets.

Organized activities like the ones at Covington Mall, Covington County Bank and on the Square provide safe, secure locations for children to go around and have a little fun. The festivities on the town square in Andalusia will also provide ample opportunities for children to develop a sweet tooth.

We encourage everyone in Covington County to get out and support their favorite football team, carry their kids trick or treating, or, if that's not your cup of tea - there's no time like the present to simply get out and visit a neighbor.

The weather's going to be great and the other alternative is to watch TV - but then, where's the fun in that.
