Residents along Point A and Gantt Lakes will soon see the water levels drop because of action taken by Alabama Electric Cooperative to allow residents to make repairs to docks and piers.

The lakes will gradually be lowered over a one-week period, starting Nov. 23, with Gantt Lake lowered 6 feet and Point A lowered by 7 feet. Gantt will be allowed to rise two feet shortly after the initial lowering, and both lakes will rise gradually after 3 weeks.

AEC Manager of Corporate Communications Cathyrn Gibson said the company will lower the lakes so residents can make repairs and because modifications are needed for Point A dam.

"Some minor modifications are needed for Point A dam," she said.

"We want the public to know about it," she said. "Especially residents along the lakes that need repairs or any new construction. (Those residents) can take advantage of the lower water levels to make any repairs to existing facilities. Property owners are reminded that a permit is required from AEC for any new construction."

Permits are available through AEC's land management office, or at the front desk of AEC headquarters, according to Gibson. The permits do not cost anything.
