Joseph Flowers and Jacard Townsend had 16 points each for Andalusia as the Bulldogs went on to a 58-30 victory over Pleasant Home Thursday night.

“We had to take Pleasant Home out of their comfort zone,” AHS head basketball coach Richard Robertson said. “They do a good job of handling the ball. They’re well-coached.

“We probably wore them down physically,” he said. “Coach (Jerry) Davis is going to get a lot out of it.”

The Eagles took away Andalusia’s powerful inside game early in the contest, but the Bulldogs bounced back later in the contest.

Townsend found Lakelyus “Fathead” Adams on the inside for an 11-2 lead, and Andalusia added five points compared to Pleasant Home’s one to take a 16-3 lead after the first period.

“Thank God we don’t have to play them again,” PHS head basketball coach Jerry Davis said. “That’s a different kind of critter.

“They’re just better inside. This game will help us down the road,” he said.

Things got out of hand when in the second period, Townsend nailed a dunk on a steal to help the Bulldogs take a 26-5 lead.

The Eagles increased their deficit to nine points in the second period, and Andalusia scored 20 to take a 36-9 lead at half time.

PHS (3-2) stayed pretty close to the Bulldogs scoring-wise in the third period, but Andalusia prevailed outscoring the Eagles 12-9.

All of Andalusia’s points in the third period were scored either under the net, or just inside the perimeter.

The Bulldogs took a 46-13 lead on a Flowers jumper, and AHS led 48-18 at the end of the third period.

Sam Byrd, whose presence on the inside was felt tonight, chipped in six points for Andalusia.

When the Bulldogs put in their second-string team, Pleasant Home managed to outscore the Bulldogs for the first time Thursday night 20-10 in the fourth period.

“We’re better (after this game),” Davis said. “You don’t fool teenagers. They kind of feel it when they play somebody this good.

“We learned a lot,” he said. “There’s a lot that can come out of this than just a butt-kicking.”

Lance Davis led Pleasant Home with nine points, and Jeffery Slaughter had six points.

In B-team action, Andalusia beat Pleasant Home 40-22.

Andalusia will play host to rival Opp tonight, starting at 4:30 with the B-team.

Andalusia’s Shi’Amber Townsend led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points in her team’s 24-point win over Pleasant Home.

Alectricia Barnes added nine points; Alexis Horton had eight points; and Tyleshia Malcolm chipped in six points.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Eagles 17-3 in the first period; led 30-11 at half time.

“We got out to a 16-1 lead, and we started working on our half-court situations,” AHS head girls basketball coach Bennie Shellhouse said. “We tried to make a situation where we would pass it as much as we can.”

Pleasant Home’s Ashley Williamson had six points; and Taylor Godwin and Raven Woods chipped in five points each.

“We just played a much better opponent (Thursday night),” PHS head girls coach Kelley Garner said. “We got some good looks in the second half, but we couldn’t make anything.”
