Auburn junior and former Andalusia stand out Blanche Alverson led the Lady Tigers with 14 points in her team’s 55-47 victory over George Washington on Wednesday night.

The Lady Tigers came back from seven points down to rally and defeat GW.

Auburn went on a 10-2 run to open the second half, holding the Colonials to two points for the first 9:37 of the half.

Tyrese Tanner had 11 points, and freshman Hasina Muhammad added 10 points for Auburn.

“Obviously it was a tale of two halves,” Auburn head coach Nell Fortner said on the Tigers’ athletics website. “I’m not sure we could have played much worse in the first half, and I thought we did some really nice things in the second half. We had some players really step up. They were challenged, and they met the challenge.”

After the 10-2 run to start the second half, Auburn took a 33-28 lead when Tanner and Parrisha Simmons scored four points each.

Auburn shot 44 percent in the second half, and 11-of-14 from the free throw line.

Additionally, the Tigers out rebounded GW 39-38.

Auburn will be back in action on Sunday with the second game in its three-game homestand. The Tigers will play host to South Carolina Upstate at 2 p.m. at Auburn Arena.
