A flurry of activity continues to be seen and unseen in the downtown business district of the Camellia City as Main Street Greenville gears up for a special auction.

The auction begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 and will feature merchandise that was left inside Alice's Antique Mall, located next door to West Point Stevens' outlet store on Commerce Street.

Anyone driving by the store has noticed the tremendous improvement in the storefront as Billy and Lana Kershner prepare to open Kershner's Fabrics.

Mary McKinley of First Realty has donated the use of her warehouse at 108 Oliver Street for the auction. Main Street Executive Director Nancy Idland hopes others will donate items for sale.

"Please look around your home or storage unit and select some good household items for the sale," Idland said.

They asked that no clothes be collected.

Monies collected will begin a fund for a facade grant for Main Street.

Anyone with an item to donate for the sale can call Jo Weitman at 382-2011 or Idland at 382-3041.

"We will gladly pick up your donations," she said.

Also, anyone wishing to volunteer on the day of the sale should also contact Idland.

The auction will feature antiques, glassware, displays, fixtures, primitives, books and much more.

A preview will be held on the day of the sale beginning at 9 a.m.

Buyers are asked to bring their own packing material for their purchases.

Cash and checks will be accepted only and they plan to sell it all, so grab a pal and be there for the biggest sale in the city's history.
