FREE ICE

The Alabama National Guard continues to pass out bags of ice free of charge at the Butler County fair grounds. Those wanting ice are asked to bring their own containers.

GREENVILLE GARBAGE PICKUP

City officials announced at a meeting at City Hall Friday arrangements have been made to pick up the trash created from Hurricane Ivan.

The pick up effort will not include tree limbs and brush.

&uot;We have made arrangements to have the garbage collected such as items from refrigerators and things like that,&uot; said Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon. &uot;People have been throwing things out like old meat and items out of their refrigerators left and right. We need to get that stuff cleaned up.&uot;

Three BFI trucks will continue to run throughout the weekend, including Saturday and Sunday to aid in the clean up effort.

The Water Department also announced plans to designate a place for people from throughout Butler County to get clean water. The department announced they would designate an area on Manningham Road near the water tower for residents from the county to find water.

While this has not been a problem in Greenville, many rural areas have been without clean water since Hurricane Ivan.
