Army officials hope a $25,000 increase in reward money will help uncover information to solve a 2001 murder of a 19-year-old pregnant solider stationed in Ger-many.

Chris Grey, spoke-sman for the U.S. Army Cri-minal Invest-igation Command (CID), said it is believed someone in Andalusia holds the key in solving the strangulation death of Pfc. Amanda Gonzalez.

Saturday will mark the 10th anniversary of Gonzalez’s death. Gonzalez, who was four months pregnant, was found Nov. 5, 2001, in her third-floor barracks room on Fliegerhorst Kasern, near Hanau, Germany, after she didn’t report for work. The Army cook was just 19 when she was found dead in her barracks.

“Increasing the reward to $125,000 is a testament to the determination we have in solving this case and bringing the person or persons responsible to justice,” Grey said. “We are confident that someone out there knows something about the untimely death of this soldier and her unborn child, and we are not giving up. We believe someone in the Andalusia area may have critical information that could assist us in our investigation

Grey would not comment on how the search led officials to Andalusia. Instead, he “strongly encourage(d) anyone with information to contact us immediately.”
