Georgiana coach Greg Ellis won't say that his Panther football team played a perfect game last Friday, but it was awfully close.

The Panthers, led by a 234-yard and four touchdown rushing performance by Zane Stackhouse, cruised by Samson 45-6 for Ellis' first win as Georgiana's coach.

"We had one of those game where everything we tried looked good," Ellis said.

Now the Panthers coach will try to build on a near perfect game by going on the road to open region play in Daphne Friday with Bayside Academy.

Bayside (1-0) scored a touchdown with less than two minutes left to play to hold off Millry, 26-22.

Gaylon Brunson led the Admirals by rushing for 103 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.

"Their offensive line is really good for a 2A school," Ellis said. "They are so well coached and disciplined. They are always in the right place at the right time."

Georgiana's defense, led by middle linebacker Jimmy Taylor's 14 tackles and recovered fumble, limited Samson to just 31 yards of total offense.

Even if Friday's win seemed near perfect, Ellis said there were plenty of areas to concentrate on this week leading up to the Panthers' first region game.

"There were a few times where if Zane (Stackhouse) had hit the right hole, he would have scored again," Ellis said. "There also were some times when the offensive line didn't block and it forced Zane to cut back instead of follow his block. Those are the kind of mistakes we'll focus on."
