After suffering a 47-7 loss to Region 1, Class 2A foe and defending 2A champs Leroy Friday at Harmon Field, playoff hopes have all but been dashed in Georgiana.

The loss mathematically knocks the Panthers out the playoffs with two region games left on their schedule, including this Friday's matchup at Flomaton.

"We're playing the game to have fun," explained first-year Georgiana coach Greg Ennis.

The Panthers (2-4) have yet to win a region game this year. Georgiana could have afforded three region losses, but the loss to Leroy put the Panthers completely out of the picture.

Flomaton also has fallen out of playoff contention. The Hurricanes' losing streak spans more than a season and a half after dropping their 15th-straight game in a 31-14 decision to Bayside Academy Friday night.

"I think they are real improved from last year," Ennis said. "You can tell they are getting better every game, and that's what is scary about them."

But Ennis isn't so much concerned about Flomaton this week as he is his own team. The Panthers turned the ball over six times in the first half, including three times in the red zone against Leroy.

"There's not a team that we've played so far that has worried me. The only team that worries me is Georgiana," he said. "Obviously we need to learn to hold onto the football."

So with no chance at making the playoffs, what are Ennis' expectations for the remainder of the season?

He said that educating his players about his system is first and foremost on his agenda.

"We want to get better by understanding the system better," he said. "Once the guys understand the system, then it will only become easier for them."
