Greenville gymnasts finish fifth in state

The Greenville Gymnastics Level 3 Team coached by Lauren Smith went out with a bang by finishing fifth in the state championship meet in Birmingham on Nov. 12.
Competing against 15 other teams around the state, Theresa Scott, Ashton Scott, Abbi Sanders, Linsey Niehaus, Laiken Burleson, Shelby Simmons, Savannah Sexton and Sayge Snell led Greenville to pick up a team trohpy.
“I am very proud of each of these girls,” Smith said. “They have been dedicated and hard workers all season. Every award was well-deserved.”
In the 11-year-old division, Theresa Scott placed first on bars with a 9.3 score, first on beam with a 9.475, third on floor with a 9.3, and fourth on vault with a 9.2. Her All-Around score was a 37.275, which gave her the all-around title.
Before the meet, Ashton Scott set a goal of scoring 9s on at least two events. She exceeded her goal taking first on bars with a 9.15, second on floor with a 9.175, second on vault with a 9.1 and ninth on beam with an 8.35.
In the 8-year-old division, Ashton took second place in All-Around with a score of 35.775.
Abbi Sanders of Luverne competed in the 8-year-old division where she placed ninth on bars, tenth on beam, fifth on floor with an 8.85 and seventh on vault with an 8.8. She placed ninth in the All-Around with a 32.8.
Linsey Niehaus, who competed in the 11-year-old division,
finished first on bars with an 8.65, ninth on beam with an 8.15, fifth on floor with an 8.2 and seventh on vault with an 8.8. She finished seventh in the all-around with a 33.8.
Laiken Burleson of Georgiana and Shelby Simmons of Greenville both had a good meet in the 9-10 year old division. Burleson placed sixth on bars, seventh on beam with an 8.9, seventh on floor with an 8.425, fifth on vault with an 8.7, and sixth in All-Around with a 33.225. Simmons placed sixth on bars, fifth on beam with a 9.1, eigth on floor with an 8.375, ninth on vault with an 8.6 and sixth All-Around with a score of 33.725.
Savannah Sexton of Honoraville and Sayge Snell of Highland Home both competed in the 8-year old division. Sexton placed fourth on bars with an 8.55, tenth on beam, ninth on floor with an 8.225, tenth on vault with an 8.45, and sixth All-Around with a 33.075.
Snell had her best meet of the season placing fifth on bars with an 8.1, ninth on beam with an 8.35, sixth on floor with an 8.625, and fifth on vault with an 8.8. She finished fifth All-Around with a 33.9.
