Nineteen of Alabama’s best and brightest young women will be converging on the Camellia City this weekend. These hopefuls will vie for valuable scholarship monies, a crown and title of Miss Greater Greenville 2006.

The Miss Greater Greenville Scholarship Program will be &uot;Live on Stage at the Ritz&uot; at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at Greenville’s historic Ritz Theatre. In its third year, the local program is an official preliminary for the Miss Alabama/Miss America Scholarship Program.

Miss GG Director Sue Arnold said the scholarship board members are looking forward to another successful program this weekend.

&uot;There are some changes in the Miss America program this year, so you will see some changes locally, too. There is a new selection process and a new competition in casual wear,&uot; Arnold said.

Participants will be judged on stage in the additional areas of swimsuit, talent, and evening wear. Interviews will take place at the Ritz that morning.

The Senior Dance Team of Sonya’s Dance Studio in Greenville will provide some &uot;high-steppin’&uot; entertainment for the evening.

&uot;These girls are so talented and I know everyone will enjoy seeing them perform,&uot; Arnold said, adding,

&uot;We have Ralph Stacy back by popular demand as our master of ceremonies.&uot;

Christine Clarke of Mobile, the reigning Miss Greater Greenville, will take her farewell walk and crown her successor.

&uot;Christine has done a wonderful job sharing her vocal talents and her platform on youth fitness with our community. We’re sure our new Miss GG will do the same,&uot; Arnold said. Clarke will also perform as part of the entertainment that evening.

Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the door.

&uot;Come on out Saturday night, cheer on your favorites and enjoy the talents of our local dance team, too. We’re looking forward to a great night at the Ritz,&uot; Arnold said.
