Seniors in Andalusia High School’s U.S. Government class got a live view of “Law and Order” as they attended court proceedings Tuesday.
The class took the annual field trip to the Covington County Courthouse to get a better understanding of the judicial system, said teacher Daniel Bulger.
The class was slated to hear opening arguments in the sex abuse case against Florala produce stand owner James Richard Downes; however, due to the subject matter, the class watched a civil proceeding involving a local gym.
“This is such a small town, so I don’t expect it to be anything like ‘Law and Order,’” said Alex Hart. “I think too many people know one another here for that to happen, I know it’s not going to be like it is on TV, but I wish it was.”
Meredith Tillman said she thought the process was “exciting” to watch.
“I want to go into public relations, so I never thought about going to law school,” Tillman said. “I was really excited to see how (the proceedings) all happened, though.”
