It was the same old story for Greenville boys basketball coach Victor Smith.

Throughout the season Greenville has not been a team to play well to begin a game, but it does come on strong at the end.

It was the same story in the semifinals of the Class 5A, Area 3 Tournament on Friday, only the Tigers (13-13) didn't finish the way they traditionally do.

Charles Henderson rebounded from a 41-36 halftime deficit to roll to a 77-68 victory to advance to the championship game on Monday and put an end to Smith's first season as the Tigers' coach.

&#8220It was a struggle to get everyone on the same page this year,” Smith said of his first season. &#8220Hopefully it will be much better next season now that the guys know what I expect of them. They understand and finally caught on, but time just ran out.”

Charles Henderson jumped out to a 25-16 lead by the end of the first period before Greenville got back in the game and took a 41-36 advantage by intermission.

The Trojans regained the lead in the third period and headed into the final frame with a narrow two-point advantage.

While Greenville seemed to struggle at times offensively it would seem that Charles Henderson really won the game at the free throw line.

The Trojans visited the charity stripe 46 times during the game netting 27. In fact Charles Henderson converted almost twice as many free throw attempts than what Greenville attempted for the game. Greenville netted 8-of-14.

&#8220You take the free throws out of the game, and it's a whole new ballgame,” Smith said.

Justin Green led Charles Henderson with a game-high 26 points, while Mosses Griffin pitched in 24. Demonte King added 11.

Rashad Knight led the Tigers with 13 points, while Isiah Mack and Michael Peagler added nine points each.
