SHS girls win 2, lose 2 in Troy

The Straughn Lady Tigers finished 2-2 at the Trojan Classic Fastpitch Tournament in Troy last weekend.
On Friday night, the Lady Tigers defeated Greenville, 18-1, before falling to Excel, 6-2.
Straughn would meet Excel again on Saturday at the tournament, but couldn’t come out with the victory, losing 1-0.
In Saturday’s first game, the Lady Tigers beat Opp, 4-3.

Kayla Messer was 4-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs in her team’s rout over Greenville.
The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the first, one in the second and third innings before capping the game off scoring 12 runs in the fourth.
Tiffany Taylor was 3-for-4 with one double and two RBIs.
Katy Messick earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit, one run and striking out five.
Excel 6, Straughn 2
Straughn’s Tori Bracewell hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give her team a 2-1 lead.
Excel responded in the top of the sixth inning with several hits and a bases-loaded triple to take the lead back at 6-2.
Kaitlynn Wiggins pitched 6.0 innings, allowing eight hits, four walks and striking out five.
Straughn 4, Opp 3
With the score tied at 3-3 in the fifth inning, Kaitlynn Wiggins successfully got on base by getting hit by a pitch.
Wiggins then advanced to third base on a steal.
Katy Messick then singled home Wiggins to break the tie and give the Lady Tigers a 4-3 win.
Messick pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out six, while Wiggins pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Excel 1, Straughn 0
With the score tied 0-0, Excel scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Lady Tigers, 1-0.
Kaitlynn Wiggins was 1-for-3 with one triple, and Kayla Teel was 1-for-2.
Katy Messick pitched 2 innings, allowing two hits, striking out one and no runs. Wiggins pitched 4 innings, allowing four hits, one run and striking out five.
Straughn’s junior varsity and varsity teams will host Flomaton today starting at 4 p.m.
