Cancer society searching for Relay teams

The Butler County Chapter of the American Cancer Society (ACS) is looking for those who believe in teamwork for a great cause.
The county's ACS Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event in the county for the continued fight against cancer, is slated for Friday, May 12 at its new location, the Greenville YMCA football field.
Spring flies by – and that means teams need to be assembled very soon, local RLF and ACS Chairman Joan Reynolds said.
“Our goal for Relay in 2006 is $100,000 and we need lots of teams to work together to make this happen,” the chairman added.
Teams Captain Rebecca Butts has a lofty goal for this year's RFL.
“I would love to see us have 50 teams from across the county. All you have to do is get ten or more people together, each whom commit to raising at least $100. Your church, business, industry, civic organization, school, social club, alumni organization…any of these can make up a team,” Butts said.
Team members can solicit funds individually, as well as hold team fundraising events in the months leading up to Relay For Life.
“You can hold bake sales, yard sales, car washes, raffles…you can ask people in your school or office to pay a small fee if they want to wear jeans and t-shirts to work one day a week, for example,” Butts said.
Teams can also earn Relay Bucks that go toward winning the Relay Trophy by participating in the many fun events offered the evening of Relay.
These include the ever-popular womanless beauty contest, the cook-off, dance contest, ski walk and other activities.
“Relay brings a lot of fun and a real sense of community to our county as we unite to support a very worthy cause. Few of us haven't been touched in some way by this disease. We urge residents throughout our county to consider banding together and forming a Relay For Life team,” Reynolds said.
