Georgiana closed out its baseball season Thursday afternoon with a seveng-game winning streak after knocking off county rival McKenzie, 10-5.

The Panthers (8-10) scattered 11 hits, while the pitching duo of Chris Scott and Kyle Nelson limited the Tigers to just four hits.

Georgiana coach Donald Ray Mixon said that he could not think of a better way to wrap up the season than to go out a winner.

&#8220I think in those last few ballgames we gelled more as a team,” he said. &#8220We played some pretty good teams like Goshen and Highland Home during that winning streak. And we held our own against Flomaton, which is going to the playoffs, losing to them 4-3. This team didn't know how to finish a game, but it learned in these last few games.”

After playing to a 2-2 stalemate in the first inning, Georgiana pulled away by holding McKenzie scoreless for the next three innings, while the Panthers plated six runs.

Andy Betterton led the Georgiana hitting attack by going 4-for-4 on the day. Chris Shows also had two hits.

Chance Davis provided the big hit of the day when the Tiger slugger ripped a two-run home run in the first inning to give McKenzie an early 2-0 lead.

Michael Rackard had the other two hits for the Tigers.
