One Florala man is dead, and other listed in critical condition after suffering an overdose Saturday.

Chief Sonny Bedsole said officers were dispatched to the Eighth Street home shortly after noon to find Dustin Yard dead inside the home, and another man, identified as Justin Brown, needing immediate medical attention.

Bedsole said officers found methadone, Zanax, Lortab and a “white powdery substance” that field-tested positive as amphetamine at the scene.

Brown was transported to the Florala Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to a Pensacola, Fla., where he remains in critical condition, Bedsole said.

“But until we get a chance to talk with Mr. Brown or we get word from the lab, we’re won’t be sure that they didn’t get gets some ‘bad stuff’ or just overdosed on prescription pills,” he said.

Bedsole said Yard’s body was sent for an autopsy to help determine the cause of the overdose as well.
