The wait is over for those missing the seafood buffet and Sunday lunchline at Country Folks in Florala.

Owner Dwight Day said last week, the restaurant will reopen on Fri., Sept. 9 – nearly nine weeks after backed-up sewer lines flooded the grounds on July 14.

“We’ve gone to great lengths to really sanitize everything,” Day said. “There’s all new carpet and everything is ready to go. It’s going to be great to open back up so that the people of Florala have a nice place and I’m very glad to be able to put my employees back to work.”

Day said he currently has 14 on the payroll, which includes everyone from servers to cooks.

Day said the menu and hours will remain the same – Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., featuring a nightly seafood buffet; and on Sunday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., featuring a traditional Sunday dinner that includes chicken and dressing and dumplings.

“At night, we’ll also feature the full-line menu,” he said. “It’s whatever the customer wants.”

City officials said it was good to hear the news of the restaurant’s reopening.

“We had two restaurants to close (Bean’s, Becky’s Pizza), so obviously, it’s good to have a business opening the doors, or in this case, reopening its doors,” said Florala Mayor

Robert Williamson. “It’s good for the business owner, and it’s good for the city.”
