Following Friday's huge upset of the No. 7 Edgewood Wildcats, the No. 9 Fort Dale Eagles will return to action this Friday as they host the visiting Hooper Colts.

&#8220I feel really good about the effort we gave (Friday night),” Fort Dale head coach James &#8220Speed” Sampley said. &#8220I don't think we could have played any harder.”

The Eagles downed the Wildcats Friday in a defensive battle that resulted in many Fort Dale players being banged up this week.

Mika Jones, who came up with two interceptions and the Eagles' lone touchdown on a 60-yard reception, took a shot for a hip flexor prior to Friday's game in order to play and sat out of Monday's and Tuesday's practice.

Dalton Gregory also suffered heat cramps during the game, but Sampley said Gregory cramps during almost every game due to his low body fat percentage and he should be fine for this weekend.

Ben Callen also suffered a hip flexor and Jeremy Huckaba suffered a hurt knee. Huckaba had an MRI on the knee Tuesday and while the results were unknown as of press time, Sampley said he expects Huckaba to be out for several weeks.

&#8220We're just concerned about our health right now because we don't have the numbers that we have had in the past,” Sampley said.

This week against Hooper, Sampley said his team must move past the Edgewood victory and concentrate solely on the Colts.

&#8220We have to think about nobody but (Hooper),” Sampley said. &#8220If we play defense like we did Friday night, we won't have to worry.”

Sampley said he expects Hooper to throw the ball about 20 times and they will run the veer option.

&#8220Hooper is a better team than they were last year,” Sampley said. &#8220They will be well prepared.”

On the offensive side of the ball, Sampley said the offensive line must sustain their blocks at the line of scrimmage to get backs Blake Mullins and Jones into the defensive backfield.

Sampley said senior quarterback Ty Newton made only one bad mistake in his debut at quarterback and played a smart game for the Eagles.

&#8220Ty made several great decisions not to throw the football when it wasn't there,” Sampley said.

Although Sampley knows the Colts will be well prepared, he also hopes his team will be prepared following the big win last week.

&#8220This is a really big game for us with it being a region game,” Sampley said. &#8220I know there is going to be a little letdown from last week but we can't let that happen.”
