It's been a long time since the Greenville Tigers were the hunter instead of the hunted, but that was confirmed this week as the Tigers moved up to a No. 10 ranking in Class 5A.

Following Friday's 29-0 blowout over then No. 7 ranked Valley Rams, the Tigers (5-1) jumped into this week's Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A poll.

&#8220That was so big for our kids,” Greenville head coach Bryant Vincent said about Friday's win.

This week the Tigers take to the road after playing three consecutive home games as they travel to region foe Tallassee.

&#8220We are going to have to refocus,” Vincent said. &#8220This is their homecoming week and a must-win game for them.”

The Tallassee Tigers are coming off a 31-20 win over Booker T. Washington and are now 3-0 since the return of preseason Super 8 quarterback Demond Washington.

&#8220They have three big playmakers in their quarterback, tailback and a wide receiver and we've got to contain (Washington),” Vincent said. &#8220He's got a legitimate 4.4 speed.”

Although the Tigers have only one region loss so far this season, coming at the hands of Region 2 leader Eufaula, Greenville has still not clinched a playoff berth and Vincent said this is a must-win game for both teams.

&#8220We're still not in the playoffs but a win Friday night will secure a playoff berth,” Vincent said.

Just how big would it be to have Greenville back into the playoffs after consecutive 1-9 seasons in just Vincent's first year?

&#8220It would just be truly special for these kids, for our coaches and for our community,” Vincent said.

Kickoff for Friday night's game at Tallassee is scheduled for 7 p.m.
