Plans for a new dialysis center got the go-ahead Thursday when the City of Andalusia’s Planning Commission voted to rezone property on South Three Notch MED for use as a medical facility.

Robert Bishop made the request to rezone the property, currently zoned for residential. A neighboring property owner, Charlie Brunson, spoke against the request.

Bishop said the center will provide good-paying jobs.

The Planning Commission was unanimous in its support.

Mayor Earl Johnson, who also sits on the commission, to members in response to Brunson’s concern over traffic in the area, that the city is pursuing grants to study and improve the traffic flow in the area.

Director of Planning Andy Wiggins said preliminary plans for the building show separate entrances and exits, which should help with traffic issues.
