The Greenville High School varsity basketball team does.

For the fifth straight game, the Greenville Tigers emerged victorious Saturday night as they held off a late charge by the cross-county rival Georgiana Panthers to take the 11-point win, 67-56. The varsity girls and boy's B-team were also victorious Saturday to give the Tigers a clean sweep over the Panthers.

In a heated game that took place in front of a standing room only crowd, the varsity Tigers and Panthers came out full of emotion in the final game of the night, almost too full in fact.

In the first period, an intentional foul was called on each team before both teams settled down and played fundamental basketball.

The Tigers opened up a four-point lead at the end of the first period before extending that lead to 11 at the half.

The Tigers never looked back after that.

Although the Panthers were able to cut the lead to seven at the end of the third period, it wasn't enough as the Tigers cruised to victory.

For Greenville, all 10 players scored on the night, led by Darel Carter and Michael Peagler with 13 points apiece.

Andres Gentry was next for the Tigers with 12 points, followed by James Daniels with eight points, Wilshad Smith and Casey Weston with five apiece, D.J. Carter and Kelcius Pate with four apiece, Tyus Robinson with three points and Edward Searight with two points.

For the Panthers, Jamie Williams had an explosive night scoring a game-high 30 points.

Terrance Matthews was next for Georgiana with nine points, followed by Damien McIntosh with five points.

The Tigers will return to action Friday night at Calhoun starting at 5 p.m. and the Panthers will travel to Excel Thursday night.

Greenville 63, Demopolis 60

In a game that almost mirrored the first Tiger vs. Tiger showdown, the Greenville Tigers held a comfortable lead over the Demopolis Tigers going into the final period Friday night, but this time Greenville held on for the win, 63-60.

Tyus Robinson was the leading scorer for Greenville with a game-high 19 points, followed by Michael Peagler with 15 points, Andres Gentry with 12 points, Darel Carter with eight points, Kelcius Pate with three points and D.J. Carter, Edward Searight and James Daniels all with two points apiece.

For Demopolis, Casey Cantry, the star of the last Greenville-Demopolis game, had a team-high 16 points, followed by Patrick Robinson with 12 points and Brian Taylor with 11 points.

Girls

Greenville 43, Georgiana 31

Although the Tigers and the Panthers got off to a slow start Saturday night, the Tigers were able to overcome a two-point halftime deficit to take a commanding fourth period and cruised to victory, 43-31.

Victoria Gentry was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 10 points, followed by Lakeeta Bonner and Nicole Norton with nine points apiece, Lakeidra Savage with five points and Alexis Salter, Olivia Dunklin, Tamara Truitt, Nikia Powell and Cresheva Johnson all with two points apiece.

In a scary moment that stopped the game for nearly 20 minutes, Salter ran face first into the wall trying to save a ball and was knocked unconscious. She was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and was later released Saturday night.

For the Panthers, Patrice Cheatham was the game's leading scorer with 11 points, followed by Shataska Mobley with 10 points and Tamoya Peterson with four points.

Demopolis 62, Greenville 35.

The Greenville High School Lady Tigers fell behind early to Demopolis Friday night and never seemed to recover as the Demopolis Lady Tigers took advantage of a 17-point halftime lead to take the win, 62-35.

Alexis Salter was the leading scorer for the Greenville Lady Tigers with 16 points, followed by Lakeeta Bonner with eight points, Nikia Powell with four points, Nicole Norton with three points and Rachel Williams and Olivia Dunklin with two apiece.

J. Simmons was the leading scorer for Demopolis with 17 points, followed by A. Arnold and A. Brock with 10 points apiece.

B-team boys

Greenville 54, Georgiana 38

Four players scored in double digits Saturday night as the Greenville Tigers B-team trounced Jerome Harris' Georgiana Panthers B-Team, 54-38.

Marcus Mickles had a huge night for the Tigers, scoring a game-high 16 points, followed by Brently Hill with 15 points, Traves Yelder with 14 points and Mikwese Claybourne with 12 points.

Devin Cheatham had a team-high 14 points for the Panthers while teammate Terrance Sylvester had 13 in the loss.
