Greenville softball back on track after sweeping Squadron

The Greenville Tigers varsity softball team improved to 3-6 on the season Tuesday after sweeping the double-header with Highland Home, 11-10 and 10-0.
In the first game, the Tigers mounted a huge come-from-behind win after falling behind by seven early.
The Flying Squadron took a 7-0 lead in the second inning and increased it to eight in the top half of the fourth inning before the Tigers finally got on the scoreboard with six runs in the bottom half of the fourth.
Down 8-6, the Tigers found themselves in a deeper hole after the Flying Squadron added two more runs, one in the fifth inning and one in the sixth, before Greenville pulled the game back to within three heading into the final inning.
With their backs against the wall, the Lady Tigers loaded the bases and brought in three runs to tie the game in the seventh before Flying Squadron centerfielder Etherridge made a leaping catch to send the game into extra innings.
After holding Highland Home scoreless in the eighth, the Tigers scored to end the marathon game.
Offensively for Greenville, Kayla Garlock was the leading hitter with a 4-for-5 performance, including three RBI's and two stolen bases.
Brittany White and Kristi Garlock were next for the Tigers with three hits apiece, including a homerun by White, followed by Nicole Norton with two hits and Cortnee Myers, Nikia Powell, Kairee Newton, Abby Blackmon and Marvia Scott with one hit apiece.
For Highland Home, McGough was the leading hitter with three hits while Etherridge and Dunn finished with game with two hits apiece.
On the mound, Newton earned the win for Greenville while Dunn picked up the loss for Highland Home.
The Tigers will return to action March 27 as they travel to Montgomery to take on the Robert E. Lee Generals.
Greenville 10, Highland Home 0
In the second game of a double-header, the Greenville Tigers varsity softball team out hit the Highland Home Fly Squadron 10-3 to take the easy victory, 10-0.
Brittany White, Kayla Garlock, Kristi Garlock and Abbey Blackmon each had two hits apiece while Kairee Newton and Nicole Norton each had one in the win.
White and Kayla Garlock also each finished with a double while Blackmon had a triple in the win.
For the Flying Squadron, Etherridge, Johnson and Thorton each had a hit.
Norton earned the win for Greenville while also striking out six Squadron batters.
Bozeman picked up the loss for Highland Home.
Pleasant Home 5, Greenville 1
Pleasant Home scored three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning Monday and that's all they needed as the Eagles downed the Greenville Tigers, 5-1.
Although the Eagles only out hit the Tigers 5-4, Greenville wasn't able to bring a runner across the plate until the sixth inning.
Offensively for the Eagles, Phillips had two hits while Johns, Reeves and Reeves each had one.
For the Tigers, Cortnee Myers, Kayla Garlock, Kristi Garlock and Nikia Powell each had a hit in the loss.
Wiggins earned the win for Pleasant Home and Brittany White picked up the loss for Greenville.
White finished the game with six strikeouts.
Prattville 4, Greenville 3
The Greenville Tigers out hit the Prattville Lions 10-3 March 9 but it wasn't enough as the Lions scored in the final inning to take the win, 4-3.
Brittany White, Kairee Newton and Nikia Powell led Greenville with two hits apiece while Kayla Garlock, Kristi Garlock, Nicole Norton and Abby Blackmon each finished with one hit.
For the Lions, Taylor, Kilpatrick and Hunter scattered the only three hits.
White, who struck out 15 batters, picked up the loss for Greenville while Councell earned the win for the Lions.
