The Greenville city council approved the establishment of a $1.5 million line of credit with BancorpSouth in preparation for a bond issuance that would be used to repair streets, drainage facilities, and refurbish the city's swimming pool located at Beeland Park.

Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon said the principal amount of the bond issuance would not exceed $3 million.

Portions of the initial $1.5 million, said McLendon, will be used to pay for the Greenville Commons Roadway project for the new movie theatre on I-65. The road will cost $708,090 and is being built by Evans Contracting Company.

The interest rate on the loan from BancorpSouth is 4.02 percent.

The remainder of the money will go towards roadway improvements, a water tank and new water lines, refurbishing the city's swimming pool, as well as the possible construction of new tennis courts at the complex in Beeland Park, said McLendon.

In the same meeting on Monday, the city agreed to pay the Boys & Girls Club $40,000 to help the organization move from its current location to the ROTC building at the old Greenville High School. Timetable for the move is by Aug. 1, said McLendon.

&#8220They feel like they have more room over there and it's a good building,” said McLendon.

In other business:

The council approved the following board appointments - the reappointment of Gene Hardin, Jimmie Lawrence and Jim Dunklin to the Industrial Development Board; the reappointment of Johnny Autrey to the Board of Adjustment; and the reappointment of Jim Scott to the Governmental Utility Services Corporation.

The council approved the issuance of an off-premise only retail beer license for Walter E. McCormick D.B.A. TCB Corner Stop and Caf\u00E9 located on Aztec Rd.

The council approved the issuance of an off-premise only retail beer license for Donald Bruce Adkinson D.B.A. MDBP located on Pineapple Highway.

Approved the following expenditures: $1,140 to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for a five-year permit renewal for the landfill; $5,576.55 to BSN Sports for all teams baseball and softball player equipment, field equipment, team equipment and caps; $5,286 to Circle W Trailers for a 25-foot flat bed gooseneck trailer; $2,880 to Lee Electric, Inc. to replace two gas heating furnaces at the Greenville-Butler County Library.

Due to conflict with the Memorial Day holiday in May, the date for the city council meeting on May 14 has been re-scheduled to May 7 at 5:30 p.m. The May 28 council meeting has also been re-scheduled to May 21.
