The Big Read will kick off today at 3 p.m at the Andalusia Public Library.
There will be a birthday party in honor of the 134th anniversary of Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” and the first 150 people to get there will receive a copy of the book.
Library director Karin Taylor said the festivities will be complete with a birthday cake and candy that was famous when Twain wrote the book.
“We’ll be giving away T-shirts and book bags in a drawing.”
The Big Read is designed to promote literacy by encouraging all members of a community to read the same book.
