Opp earns ticket to playoffs

The Opp Bobcats earned a ticket to the Class 4A state playoffs Friday night, defeating area opponent Ashford at home in a doubleheader.
Opp forced the mercy rule on Ashford, winning 16-2 and 15-2.

Opp’s Gavin Free allowed only four hits and struck out nine in five innings to help lead his team to the win.
Josh Thompson had two hits; Alex Banks had one hit; Dilan Ziglar had two hits; Trey Short had one hit; Zack Sasser had two hits, including a three-run home run; Steadman Gerber had three hits; Hunter Wilson had one hit; Jantzen Flowers had one hit; and Britt Wilson had one hit.

Britt Wilson earned the win for the Bobcats on the mound striking out seven batters in five innings.
Thompson had two hits; Banks had two hits; Ziglar had one hit; Short had two hits; Sasser had one hit; Gerber had one hit; Free had one hit; and Flowers had two hits.
“Our kids are playing well,” Opp coach Michael Cassady said. “We are hitting the ball real well. We only had two errors in both games (Friday night).
“I’m very pleased with how they are playing right now,” he said.
The Bobcats improve to 16-2 overall, and 6-0 in Class 4A, Area 2.
In order to get home field advantage in the playoffs, Opp will need to win one time over Brewbaker Tech.
