The Greenville 14-year-old All-Stars had already secured a place in the finals of the tournament by virtue of wins over Eufaula, Troy and Ozark.
The team had to play Troy again in the championship.
Here are the results:
Troy 10, Greenville 7
Daniel Frazier started the game on the mound for Greenville, but came out after experiencing a little tenderness in his arm in the first inning.
Michael Scott and and Jared Edge performed well in relief.
Hunter Harrell went 2-3 and scored two runs, while Frazier went 3-5 and score a run.
Edge went 2-4 and scored two runs, Jeremy McGinty went 2-2 and scored a run, and Rush Nimmer went 1-3 and scored a run.
Michael Scott also had a hit.
Greenville 4, Troy 3
Because of the double-elimination format of the tournament, Troy had to defeat Greenville once more to advance to the state tournament.
Daniel Frazier wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.
Frazier went 3-3 with two singles, and a game-winning, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning.
Todd Burkett and Hunter Harrell each went 1-3 with a run scored.
Michael Scott also contributed a hit.
In order to reach the state tournament, Greenville has had to defeat Troy four times in two and a half weeks.
Of those four wins, Burkett has had three and Frazier has had one.
&uot;If the arms hold up and we hit, we can do it,&uot; coach Ken Burkett said about winning games in the state tournament.
&uot;This team didn’t quit, and they have good chemistry.&uot;
&uot; They also have a lot of fun,&uot; he added.
