The Grateful Hearts Fellowship Group at South Luverne held their every second Thursday covered dish supper on Thursday night, July 12th, at 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

The attendance was great!

The meeting began with the singing of &#8220Happy Birthday” to all having July birthdays.

Pastor Mike Green gave the blessing on the meal after Tim and Kathy Dowdy blessed everyone with a song.

After the meal and fellowship, the excitement began when everyone gathered in the sanctuary to greet other guests, and to hear the special guest speaker.

Tim and Kathy opened by singing two songs.

Pastor Mike Green introduced Dr. Harold Fanning and his wife, Deborah, of Hartselle, Ala.

Dr. Fanning gave a very enlightening message on &#8220Who is Your Neighbor?” based on the Biblical story of the Good Samaritan.

He is also an author and story teller who uses humor in his writings and stories.

His two books, &#8220Life in The Skillet” and &#8220Life Along a Dirt Road”, were displayed in the church foyer for purchase.

The Fannings were overnight guests at the Camellia House Bed and Breakfast.

South Luverne plans to have Dr. Fanning for another visit in the future.

The 1947 LHS Classmate Lunch Bunch held their every second Thursday luncheon at Meadowcrest Community Room on July 12th with 8 members in attendance.

Everyone brought their sandwich and drink.

Margaret Nichols brought her famous Nieman Marcus brownies to share.

Charlie Sport dropped by and brought the &#8220Class of 1947” sign for everyone to see.

The sign was displayed at the recent golf tournament, which benefited the LHS sports program.

The 1947 class sponsored one of the golf tees.

The Lunch Bunch finalized their menu and plans for their upcoming 60th classmate reunion that will be held at the Crenshaw Shrine Club on Saturday, August 4th, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

On June 23, 2007, the Alpha and Omega Anglican Church had a picnic that was inspired by the daughter of the pastor for the ladies and gentlemen of the Meadow Crest Apartments.

Mr. Tommy Beasley, a resident of the apartments, was a great help.

He did the grilling and he also provided the grill.

He also helped in organizing the picnic.

The ladies of the church provided the food, which included hot dogs and desserts.

Also, bags were prepared with goodies for the ladies and gentlemen to take home with them.

Missi, another resident of Meadow Crest, blessed everyone with an inspiring testimony about her courage and determination in the midst of her many challenges.

Mrs. Dot Kennedy led in the singing of favorite hymns.

There was great participation from the tenants and enjoyable fellowship.

Special thanks go to the members of the Alpha and Omega Anglican Church for their support, donations and help, and to Mrs. Edna Ruth Norsworthy for the use of the facility.

The Rev. Maria A. Simmons gives thanks to Jesus Christ for the wonderful fellowship that everyone experienced.

The annual Milton Reunion was held Saturday, June 30th, at the home of Bobby and Becky Welch, which is the Milton home place.

Approximately 100 friends and relatives attended.

The states represented were Virginia, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Alabama.

This family reunion started in the 1930's and was called &#8220The Fish Fry.”

The fish fry was mullet fish delivered on the morning of the fry.

Also, special friends of the family, Ronald and Audrey Sasser, donated catfish and did the frying.

Everyone brought covered dishes and desserts.

The highlight of these times together is going through the rooms of the old home place and seeing the many items that Becky has displayed and kept that has such a special meaning to their past and is such a part of their heritage.

CDs to all the grandchildren of James and Flora Milton that he had made at the 1981 reunion.

All the family and friends really appreciate the work of James Milton, his wife and children, who organize and do so much to make these reunions a success.

James is a first cousin to Becky Welch.

The 2008 reunion will be held at &#8220The Old Home Place” on July 5th.

Dozier Baptist Church hosted the joint Brotherhood and WMU meeting Saturday night, July 14, 2007, at 6 p.m.

Pastor Jerry Hogwood gave the welcome and blessing on the meal.

New Ebenezer and Union Baptist were co-hostesses with the wonderful and bountiful meal.

The Dozier ladies did an outstanding job of decorating in a patriotic theme in the dining area.

After the meal, everyone gathered in the sanctuary for the program.

Ms. Doris Rogers, Associational WMU director, gave a welcome to all the churches and made several important announcements.

She encouraged all the churches to remember August 19th when the 2007 PRAYER WALK ALL SCHOOLS in the county will be held at 2:30 p.m.

She also thanked the nominating committee for the work they did in getting the necessary positions filled.

The Dozier Singers and Rev. Jerry Hogwood rendered special music.

Mrs. Betty Sport led the prayer for our missionaries having birthdays on July 14th.

Ms. Rogers introduced Rev. Don Yancey, Director of Missions for Alabama Crenshaw Baptist, as guest speaker.

Rev. Yancey gave a very inspiring and challenging message to all churches working together.

The WMU of New Ebenezer earned the attendance banner and percentage of membership banner.

Patsburg Baptist will host the WMU quarterly meeting in September.
