Two years ago, the hearts of Covington County residents broke for Opp’s Gregg and Meredith Ramer when the couple’s twin children, Brayden and Kenadi, drowned in a family pool.

As is often the case in tragedies, the Ramers have taught all of us a little bit about overcoming heartbreaking episodes in our lives by making sure something good comes from their experience.

Recently, the Ramers established a non-profit foundation, B&K Remembered, with goals of raising funds for child safety and awareness, particularly around water, as well as services for bereaved families.

Specifically, they are sponsoring Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) lessons for area children. Though expensive at $600 per child, the Ramers believe the safety they afford young children is priceless.

“It’s something that no parent should ever face, having to bury your children,” Meredith said. “We want to give back to the community in memory of our children.”

Already, infant lessons are being taught at the Mizell Wellness Center. The next session begins July 18.
