It’s going to be a great month

It’s a great time to be a sports fan.
First and foremost, let me talk about football season for a moment.
I wasn’t sure I was ready for it.
Then I was looking through some of the Saturday editions from last fall, and it hit me how much I’m looking forward to it.
There’s just something about Friday night football in a small town.
It’s shaping up to be a great season around here.
Greenville has a lot of youth to get in game shape, but practice has been going well and the Tigers looked good in the spring game against Luverne.
Fort Dale lost a strong senior class, but it seems that they always use what they have to pull out a solid season.
I don’t think this year will be any different.
Down in Georgiana, they’re fired up for this season.
After an up-and-down season last year, the Panthers got hot at the right time and missed a berth in the third round of the playoffs by this much.
The McKenzie Tigers had a strong off-season and looked good in 7-on-7 camps.
Now they’re working on taking it to the next level with pads on.
I’m excited.
We’ve also got collegiate football hitting full swing.
There are 15,000 different preview magazines, and every one of them is chock full of stories about the state’s football teams.
Who’s going to be Auburn’s quarterback under Tony Franklin’s new offense?
Will year number two be better than the first for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide?
What’s going to happen with Troy’s offense now than Franklin made the jump to Auburn and Omar Haugabook graduated?
These are things that football fans are wondering about.
Moving beyond the state lines, we’ve got the Olympics starting.
I can’t wait to spend every waking moment watching everything from handball to badminton.
Ok, so maybe I’m really looking forward to the track and field events and swimming, but I’ll take what I can get.
We get to do this for the next three weeks.
By then it’ll be time for the first football game.
No matter what level you want to take your interest, it’s going to be a great month.
