County, city 9-10s pick up wins

Covington County and South Alabama picked up wins at the 9-and-10-year-old district tournament last weekend in Brewton.

The county team beat Brewton 11-9 on Sunday, and South Alabama defeated Brewton 11-3 on Monday.

Covington County 11, Brewton 9

Covington County trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but scored six runs to take a 11-6 lead.

Brewton rallied in the final inning to cut into Covington County’s lead with three runs at 11-9.

Earlier in the game, Covington County led 3-1 after the first inning, but Brewton came back scoring three in the second to lead 4-3.

Covington County took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the second.

Brewton gained the lead at 6-5 before Covington County’s six-run inning.

South Alabama 11, Brewton 3

In the championship series on Monday, South Alabama never backed down tying the game up at 2-2 in the third inning.

From there, the Andalusia team scored six runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth inning to claim the win.
