A Dozier man is in jail after he allegedly assaulted Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks.

The man, identified as 20-year-old Patrick Thomas Kervin, was wanted for questioning concerning property damage at a local business. When a deputy tried to detain him, Kervin fled the scene and was ultimately located by Meeks. A brief altercation between the two occurred as Meeks attempted to take Kervin into custody.

Meeks and Kervin both suffered minor injuries during the scuffle; however, neither required medical attention.
