A 13-year-old Opp boy was life flighted after a boating accident on Florala’s Lake Jackson Saturday.
Joe Drakkar, the facility operator at the Florala State Park, said the accident occurred around 4 p.m.
“The boy, who was out riding with his family, fell off the boat,” Drakkar said. “He fell into the water and was hit by the propeller. It cut one of his feet pretty badly.”
Drakkar said the boy, whose identity was not being released, was transported from the scene by Florala Rescue Squad to Florala Memorial Hospital before being life flighted to Flowers Hospital in Dothan.
“The cut was pretty bad,” Drakkar said. “He was riding inside the boat, which was operated by his father.”
Drakkar said the incident did not occur on state park property.
“Generally when things happen on the water, it becomes the responsibility of the (Alabama) Marine Police,” he said. “Since there was no one on scene, the state park handled the incident.
“(The boy) was very lucky,” he said. “It could have been worse.”
