Providence Christian had 453 rushing yards as the Eagles shut out Florala Friday night, 49-0.
The Wildcats (1-4, 1-3 in Class 1A, Region 2) trailed 35-0 at halftime and had four turnovers in the loss.
“We just didn’t give effort tonight,” Florala coach Stan Gooden said. “We’ve got to get our attitudes straight and get ready to go back to work.”
Chris Crawford led the Eagles (3-3, 2-2) with nine carries for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Preston Jones had five carries for 122 yards and a touchdown. Providence Christian quarterback Austin Gilchrist was 2-for-2 for 50 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown to Jones.
Florala’s Jorian Avan led the Wildcats with 17 carries for 92 yards.
The Wildcats’ best opportunity to score came in the fourth quarter. Florala started a drive on its own 35-yard line and advanced to the Providence Christian 10-yard line before turning it over on downs.
After the game, Gooden said he was impressed by the play of his defensive line.
“Our defensive line did what they were coached to do all week,” he said. “Evan Robbins, one of our seniors, he played a great game. He played hard for four quarters and we’re real proud of him. Our whole defensive line did what we asked them to do — Adam Resendiz, Dustin Suttles, Chris Williams and Houston Biddle.
“If we could get all 11 of them to do what we coach them to do, then we can be satisfied. Some of us were focused and some weren’t.”
Florala travels to face Geneva County next Friday.
