Red Level will take to the hoop tonight and try to continue its area dominance at home against Flomaton.
The Tigers (14-6, 2-0 in Class 2A, Area 1) defeated Mobile Christian last Friday night in Mobile, 56-50.
However, Red Level met Flomaton in a tournament earlier in the season on Nov. 25, 2008, and lost, 81-77.
Red Level coach Fred Kelley said it was good to get a big win on the road Friday night.
“We had a big win Friday night on the road,” Kelley said. “Now, we’ve got Flomaton, which also beat Excel last Friday night. They’re 2-0 in the area and we’re 2-0 in the area and whoever wins that game will be one over in area play.”
Kelley added that he is all too aware that Flomaton is a quality basketball team.
“We know that Flomaton is a good ball team because they won against us in an earlier tournament,” he said. “I know that the kids are excited. Flomaton’s got speed and quickness and we’re going to have to rely on our senior leadership and quickness.
“We’re looking to go towards the basket and coach (Kenneth) Valrie has done a good job to set up the defense,” he said.
Kelley added he is thankful that his team is in the position they in are concerning the area and hopes that all fans will come out to support the teams.
Tip off tonight is at 4:30 p.m. with the B-team.
