Bulldogs earn key win over Greenville; Lady Bulldogs suffer first area loss

Andalusia High School hosted area foe Greenville for a set of games Saturday with the ladies dropping their first area game of the season and the boys’ team cruising to a victory.

Between the two games, Andalusia’s seniors were recognized. While the young Lady Bulldogs have no seniors this season, the boys’ team recognized five of their veteran players: Calvin Daniel, Hudson Kelley, Emmanuel Marshall, Nashawn Wilson, and Cadariyus Love.

Andalusia 55, Greenville 40
It turned into a big night for the senior Bulldogs as each contributed with points and turned in solid defensive performance to slow down the Greenville Tigers on their way to a big area win, 55-40.

Led by seniors Calvin Daniel and Nashaun Wilson early on, the Bulldogs jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first period, 19-8. Both Daniel and Watson finished the period with six points.

The Bulldog defense smothered the Tigers throughout the first half, giving up only five points in the second period, holding Greenville to 13 through the first half. Senior Cadariyus Love provided an offensive jolt for the Bulldogs in the second period, sinking two three-pointers for a total of 10 through the half. At the break, Andalusia held a clear advantage, 32-13.

The Tigers got some offense going early in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-14 in the third period. Senior Emmanual Marshall and Xavier Hourel each hit three-pointers to help maintain Andalusia’s comfortable lead, 46-30, going into the final period.

Scoring was low for both teams down the stretch with Greenville scoring 10 points to Andalusia’s nine in the final period as the Bulldogs secured a 55-40 win.

With the victory, Andalusia improves to 4-1 in Area 3 play and 12-6 overall.

Daniel and Wilson each led the Bulldogs offensively with 12 points. Love finished with 10 points and Kelley added eight points.

Lady Bulldogs 44, Lady Tigers 47
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tigers battled back and forth in a game that stayed close throughout, but Greenville began to pull away in the second half and held off the Lady Tigers late to take home a 47-44 win.

The two teams were within a few points of each other throughout the first half. Destini Hourel and Jaidyn Berry each had three points to the lead the Lady Bulldogs in the first period while Kionni Wright and Ahlydiah Kelly each came away with four points in the second period. At the end of the first half it was anyone’s game, but the Lady Bulldogs held a one-point advantage, 20-19.

The third period proved to be the difference as Greenville outpaced Andalusia 18-12, due in large part to three three-pointers by Jamarri Warren. Berry helped keep the Lady Bulldogs close with six points in the third period. Going into the fourth, Andalusia was down to the Lady Tigers, 37-32.

Andalusia made up some ground with five different players scoring down the stretch, including four by Kelsie Horwath, but it was not enough to overcome the Lady Tigers’ edge before time expired with Greenville on top, 47-44.

Berry was the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 while Wright was right behind her with 10 points. Hourel finished with nine points.

Jamarri Warren had a huge game for the Lady Tigers, scoring 22 points, including four three pointers.

The loss was the first in Area 3 play for the Lady Bulldogs, which stands at 4-1 in the area and 15-4 overall.
