Tonight’s game against Florala is a “must win” situation for the Pleasant Home Eagles (2-2 in Class 1A, Area 3) as they struggle to get the top seed in Area Class 1A, Area 3 play.

“It’s a must win,” Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis said. “I hope we get some help from somewhere else.

“We need McKenzie to whip Kinston (3-1 in area) otherwise we’re looking at the No. 2 or 3 seed. That is, if we can whip Kinston when they come in here Friday.”

Davis said the last two games against McKenzie and Kinston were not great because of missed shots.

“We kind of blew our seeding last Friday night when we lost to McKenzie (2-2 in area),” he said. “One of our goals was to possibly be able to host our area and it looks like it’s slipping through our hands right now. We just didn’t play well the other night.

“We’ve had two bad ball games back to back shooting the ball,” he said. “I’m talking about bad ones.”

Davis said his team shot 30 percent from the field and that does not win ball games.

“That’s what we did the other night against Kinston,” Davis said. “I don’t have any explanation, but that we’re not getting it in the hole. We’re getting good shots, it’s just not falling. You’ve got to be able to score and that’s the name of the game and we’re not doing it.”

Davis added a lot of work has been focused on making sure the ball gets in the basket at practice.

“The good thing about it is that everybody’s in the playoffs and we’re capable of beating anybody in the area,” he said. “I’d just rather have it at our house. That’s where we’re sitting right now. Nobody did it, but ourselves. We’ve got to reload and start again.

“Everybody thinks everything is done behind the line and it’s not,” he said. “You’ve got to get to the free throw line and attack the basket. It’s a matter of do you attack or do you pass it? We’re not being real aggressive going to the hole right now. We’ve got to reload and play now.”
