Five band students from Florala High School recently attended the University of South Alabama Marching Honor Band in Mobile on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Freshman Greyson Allen, sophomore Jada Chambers, sophomore Caitlyn Hudson, senior Allison Stephens, and sophomore Peyton Watford represented the Florala Wildcat Marching Pride Band. They were selected through a recommendation process and were given professional instruction on each of their instruments.
“It is always great to see our students get involved in opportunities all over our school, county, state, and further in what we do. These students did a great job representing our band very well, and I am so proud of all of our band kids in the band here at Florala High School,” Band Director Kevin Lunsford said.
The five students were also given an opportunity to practice with the South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band and participated in a halftime show with the band during USA’s Sun Belt Conference game against Georgia Southern.
Lunsford, who completed his first marching season as a director, said the band would now begin making preparations for concert season.
“To the band, you all are awesome. It’s a pleasure to be able to stand in front of you every day and be your director. Even though I may be the teacher, each of you has taught me and amazed me more and more every day. I am proud to be a part of a community of people who travel so well and support their team whether we are at home or on the road,” he said.
