Kiwanians kick off annual county fair Monday, Oct. 21

Fall has arrived as temperatures have turned cool this week just in time for the return of the annual Kiwanis Covington County Fair to be held Oct. 21-27.
The El Martes Garden Club will sponsor a flower show on Sunday, Oct. 20. Entries should be brought to the Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia between 1 and 4 p.m. For more information about the flower show call Louise Anderson at 334-222-1653.
“It’s shaping up to be a great fair this year, and the weather looks good,” Fair Board Chairman Don Cotton said. “We will once again have James Gang Amusements on the midway with a Texas Longhorns petting zoo and pony rides in the arena this year. There will be something for everyone, so please monitor the Kiwanis Covington County Fair Facebook page for the schedule. There will be more arts, crafts, and fabrics as well as the return of floral contests.”
The fair will open on Monday, Oct. 21, 6 p.m., with scheduled entertainment provided by the Andalusia Elementary School Show Choir beginning at 6:30 p.m.
General admission for the first three nights is $5 and $20 for unlimited rides. Ages 5 and under are free.
Tuesday, Oct. 22, is Special Adult Citizens Day at the Fair from 10 a.m. until noon. Gates open at 6 p.m. with entertainment from the LBW Ensemble beginning at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 23, is Military Appreciation Night and Church Night. Gates open at 6 p.m. Those who bring a non-perishable food item per person from 6 to 7 p.m. will receive free entry. Active and reserve military with a valid ID will also be admitted free.
Thursday, Oct. 24, is a Special Children’s Day at the Fair from 10 a.m. until noon before gates open for regular entry at 6 p.m. Unlimited rides are $15. Entertainment on the outside stage will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature the Pleasant Home High School String Band, Straughn High School String Band, and the Burning Bush Family.
On Friday, Oct. 25, gates will open at 6 p.m. Unlimited rides are $25. Entertainment will be on the inside stage beginning at 6 p.m. and feature the LA Line Dancers and Five Runs karaoke winner.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, gates will open at 6 p.m. Unlimited rides are $25. A karaoke contest will be held on the inside stage starting at 6 p.m. Participants must pre-register by sending the name of their song choice with the artist to sassertabitha978@gmail.com no later than Thursday, Oct. 24. First place will receive $1,000, second place will receive $500, and third place will receive $250. The contest will be limited to 30 participants.
The fair will close Sunday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 6 p.m. with unlimited rides only for $25.
