Florala (6-2, 3-2 1A Region 2) will carry a three-game winning streak into a cross-county region rivalry matchup against Red Level (2-5, 1-4) on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.

This will be the 60th meeting between the two teams since 1921. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 41-28 over the Tigers.

With the importance of this week’s game, both coaches will have a plan in place for their team.

“We can’t have a letdown against Red Level this week. Even with the Brantley win, we did not lock up a playoff spot, and the only sure way to the playoffs is to win out. If we do not come ready to play, Red Level can end our playoff chances. Keeping the guys focused after a big win will be crucial to success this week. I do believe we are playing our best ball right now and just need to keep it up,” FHS Head Coach Kyle Davis said.

“Florala is a really athletic football team with some speed out there. Rayshon Coleman and Elijah McMeans are probably the two players they want to get the ball to. They move Rayshon around from running back and ultimately want to get the ball in his hands. We are going to try and stop that this week. All of the games are big,” RLS Head Coach Kenny Skipper said.

Last week, Florala celebrated senior night and rallied for its first win over Brantley since 1989, 36-22. Red Level was on the road and came up short at Georgiana, 43-0.

“The Brantley win was obviously a big win for not just our team but our whole community. Our kids played a hard-fought game. I was most proud of the way they made adjustments in the second half. Instead of being defeated about being down at the half, they rallied around each other and had a big second half. The defense played lights out and limited their playmakers. The offensive line, which has gotten better each game, paved the way for Rayshon and the rest of the offensive skill guys,” Davis said.

“We are playing a lot of young guys and had some injuries last week. The majority of our team is tenth graders, and we don’t even have a junior or senior up front on the offensive line. The lack of experience sometimes is a problem, but those guys are getting better. We did a few okay things last week and are not as physical as other teams, but Georgiana has a really good football team,” Skipper said.

The Wildcats earned a 48-13 road win against the Tigers last season.
