Billy O. Hassell, 88, passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2024, after a short stay in the hospital with his lifelong sweetheart and his son and daughter by his side.
Billy was an all-around great person who would help anyone in their time of need. Billy’s family always came first in his life. He loved God and had a soft spot in his heart for all animals. He especially cherished his beloved cats, the country, and old cars.
Billy was an expert carpenter, mechanic, and electrician who could fix anything. He was a wealth of knowledge of all things and was the person we all called when something needed “fixing” or we needed advice on what to do next. He loved being a Pawpaw and talking with his granddaughters. Billy was really excited to have his great-grandson Hudson and loved showing the nurses the pictures of his newest great-granddaughter, Lyla.
Billy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edgena Peevy Hassell; daughter, Kim Jones (Tom Butler); son, Scott Hassell (Cindy); granddaughters, Sarah Hassell Eddy (Ryan), Rebecca Hassell Garcia (Sonny); great-grandchildren, Hudson Scott Eddy and Lyla Mae Eddy.
It was Billy’s dream to return to his hometown of Andalusia, and Saturday he will complete that dream.
Billy’s family will honor his memory with a funeral service on Saturday, Oct. 12, 1 p.m., at Andalusia Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
