The Pleasant Home Eagles slipped to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in region play with a loss to the McKenzie Tigers Friday night.
With drizzling rain to start the game and a soaked field throughout, both teams had problems holding on to the ball, but it was the Tigers that took advantage as the Eagles had difficulties moving the ball consistently.
The first turnover came on the kickoff with a McKenzie fielder misplaying the hop, as Chris Law jumped on top of it for the Eagles. But, on third down, McKenzie got the ball back with an interception.
The Tigers took the ball all the way to the 12, but the Eagle defense stood its ground there, forcing a turnover on downs.
The first points of the game came when a misplayed snap led to a safety for the Tigers.
The first touchdown came late in the first quarter when McKenzie scored on a 26-yard run. The 2-point conversion made the score 10-0 with 1:37 to go.
The next play for the Eagles was a fumble and McKenzie capitalized a few plays later on a 44-yard touchdown pass, upping the Tiger lead to 18-0 after the 2-pointer.
Early in the second, McKenzie was moving again, but Jacob Bryan stepped in front of a receiver to pull in an interception.
After forcing a punt, the Tigers had its longest drive of the game, going 75 yards on 11 plays and into the end zone. The 2-point conversion made the score 26-0 at the half.
The Tigers scored on their first two possessions of the second half, increasing their lead to 42-0. They added another to go up 50-0 with 9:35 remaining in the game.
The Eagles took possession when Rudley Bryan recovered a fumble at the Pleasant Home 49. Bryan got the first handoff and took it 28 yards for the Eagles’ biggest play of the game. Jack Wiggins added a 9-yard run followed by an 11-yarder from Alex Scott. Bryan took the next two handoffs and scored on the second to put the Eagles on the board with 15 seconds to go. Wiggins took the ball in for the 2-point conversion, making the final score 50-8.
