Andalusia (3-3, 2-0 5A Region 2) will remain on the road and travel to Troy for a crucial region matchup against Charles Henderson (2-3, 2-1) on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.

This will be the 61st meeting between the two teams since 1945. The Trojans lead the all-time series 29-28-3 over the Bulldogs.

“Charles Henderson is a lot like us in that they have played a really tough non-region schedule. They have already played arguably the best team in our region in Montgomery Catholic. Their record is certainly not indicative of how they are, which is how we feel about our football team,” Head Coach Trent Taylor said. “It’s homecoming for them, so you know they will be fired up and play hard. It ought to be a great night for football.”

Last week, Andalusia rallied from a two-touchdown deficit and won a thriller at Beauregard in non-region play, 28-27. Charles Henderson was also on the road and came up on the short end of a 29-0 shutout to Benjamin Russell.

Taylor added that he felt Beauregard had a good game plan going into the game last week.

“You’re fortunate if you have a come-from-behind win once every three or four years. To have two in the same season says a whole lot about these kids. I am proud of their resiliency because things didn’t look good. We hold them and score on our first possession, but from there, we didn’t take advantage of any opportunities on offense in the first half. We were fortunate when Kielan Davis stripped the quarterback, and Riley Tucker was able to pick it up and score. It gave us a little bit of momentum and was a really good effort from our kids all around. They made the plays in the second half and made a big stop on their two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.”

Taylor said the team still has room for improvement with four key region games left.

“It seems crazy to say after six ballgames, but there are still a lot of things we can do with our team to improve. Our kids must do those things if they want to accomplish the goals they set for themselves. If you can’t be fired up and go about doing business like you need to, something is wrong. It’s time to get back into region play and see what we can do,” he said.

The Bulldogs trounced the Trojans on their home turf, 58-28, in the previous matchup in 2021.
