The Andalusia City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 17, approved $55,000 in projects to update and preserve the historic Magnolia Cemetery.
The projects include cleaning the fence rows and clearing weeds from the cemetery, cleaning the monuments in the cemetery, and re-edging and sealing the driveways in the cemetery. The low bidders for those projects were South Stats Roof Cleaning, Jorge Velasquez, and TR Asphalt Sealing and Striping, LLC.
The project is similar to previous projects in Marshall and Andalusia Memorial cemeteries, Planning and Development director Andy Wiggins said.
The cemetery, which dates to the mid-1800s, is located behind the Covington County Courthouse.
The council previously approved a project that will create a digital directory of all of the city’s cemeteries.
