Lee Roy Kirkland, age 89, passed away in Andalusia Hospital, after a brief illness on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, to rest in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior.
Lee was preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers, sisters, and a daughter, Marie Kirkland.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Mary Kirkland, and her children, Ronald Adams (Debra), Judy Bracewell (Alan), Bobby Blackburn, and Janice Barron, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were devoted to him.
Lee retired from the Army after two tours in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart for his bravery. He also taught ROTC at Auburn
University. He owned and operated an electrical business, worked for Amoco, and retired from the Army Corp of Engineers as a Park Ranger. After retirement, he was a “Host” at Open Pond Recreation Area. He was fluent in many languages, very capable in many trades and was always helping someone in need.
He enjoyed traveling, square dancing, watching “Gunsmoke,” and spending time with his family. But, his favorite pastime was playing dominoes. He was a member of Lindsey Baptist Church and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m., at Keahey Funeral Home. Pastor Frankie McVay will officiate. Interment will follow in Stone Lake Gardens with full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
