The Red Level Tigers notched a big region win at the expense of county rival, Pleasant Home Friday night, 41-7.

The Tigers took advantage of several miscues by the Pleasant Home special teams, building up a big lead by early in the third quarter.

Pleasant Home came up with the first big play of the game, recovering a Tiger fumble, but that led to a three-and-out for the Eagles, which also led to the first special team error when the snap on the punt attempt sailed over the punter’s head giving the Tigers possession at the 42. From there, it took Malique Copeland only one play as he took it all the way in for the touchdown and a 7-0 at 8:02 in the first quarter.

Later in the first, the Eagles forced a three-and-out and got the ball back with good field position after the Red Level to punt traveled sideways and was downed at the Tiger 18-yard line. Jacob Bryan, who was a workhorse all night for the Eagles, took the first handoff the full distance to the end zone. The point-after gave tied the game at seven with 2:09 remaining in the first.

The teams exchanged possessions until midway through the second when a bad punt snap once gave Red Level excellent field position at the 19-yard line. On third down, Copeland broke a few tackles and rolled 21 yards into the end zone. Ben Carroll’s point-after gave the Tigers a 14-7 edge with 5:37 to go in the half.

The Eagles had a solid drive going late in the second, but the Tiger defense held on a fourth-down play at their own 35. A holding call, along with an 18-yard pass from Copeland to Caston Black set up a 3-yard touchdown reception for Devan Parker. The point-after failed, but the Tigers took a 20-7 lead into the half.

The Tiger defense set up the first score of the second half when multiple defenders pressured the Eagle quarterback, leading to a fumble recovered at the 6-yard line by Carroll. Junior Mayes took consecutive handoffs, scoring on the second, leading to a 28-7 score after 2-point conversion.

The Tigers went on to score two more times in the half while its defense held the Eagles scoreless.

The victory improves Red Level’s record to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in region play. The Tigers will host Lafayette (2-3) for homecoming on Friday, Sept. 27.

Pleasant Home drops to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in region play. The Eagles have a bye week before hosting McKenzie on Friday, Oct. 4.
